What is Psychoacoustics?

As defined by wikipedia.com "Psychoacoustics is the scientific study of sound perception. More specifically, it is the branch of science studying the psychological and physiological responses associated with sound (including speech and music). It can be further categorized as a branch of psychophysics."

Psychoacoustics is a way to use sound to study the human nervous system. Last semester I took a course of appreciation for the arts. During this course each student grouped up with another set of students and presented something related to the readings. One of the groups presented a presentation on how music can be used in a number of ways. They showed a video that was taken in a nursing home with a patient listening to music. When the headphones were placed on the patient he sang all the words moved and so fourth. However when the music was not being played the patient was unresponsive and un-mobile. That was the most amazing thing I had even seen. Now knowing what Psychoacoustics is I believe that was a great example of the effect of music.
